“Folk-hewn but modern-facing, his work sits alongside those early Ben Howard cuts or even Jack Johnson, that kind of slick but still endearingly earnest musicality.” – Clash
“Fan Fave: The rise and rise of Ziggy Alberts” – Triple J
“Youthful songwriter Ziggy Alberts’ sound has been described as ‘coastal folk’. It’s an apt description, with ‘Laps Around The Sun’ demonstrating both the warmth and loneliness of the coast.” – Songwriting Magazine
Ziggy Alberts is an independent singer/songwriter, free-surfer & environmental enthusiast from the East Coast of Australia.
Picking up the guitar in 2011, Ziggy is pushing the boundaries and expectations of self-funded independent artists and continues to share his music around the world to his dedicated grassroots following. He sings heartfelt stories of personal endeavours and experiences, ocean-side upbringing, environmental issues and life on the road.
At only 24 years old Ziggy Alberts has released four records, co-founded his own label Commonfolk Records, played sold out tours across the world, and his music has effortlessly amassed over 95 million streams, globally.
Laps Around The Sun – upcoming album – will be Ziggy’s 5th record, following Feels Like Home (2012), Made of Water (2013), Land & Sea (2014) and Four Feet in the Forest EP (2016).
Headlining at established music venues through 11 European countries on his summer 'Tell Me Europe Tour 2017', Ziggy sold over 5,000 tickets and played festival performances in France, Netherlands and Germany.
The Heaven Tour saw Ziggy performing at his biggest headline shows to date. With 4 out of 5 shows officially selling out (QPAC Concert Hall, Enmore, Palais and Astor Theatres) Ziggy proved his ability in connecting with his audience despite the growing room sizes. Imagine 2,000 people singing every word to ‘Gone’, then hearing a pin drop moments later.
The tour was promoted with no marketing budgets, PR agencies or radio support. The team relied solely on Ziggy's organic social media posts and following, which is a small reflection of his dedicated fan base.
In 2018, Ziggy established himself as a main stage artist at the Byron Bay Bluesfest, playing to a full, swooning crowd of 5,000 people. Ziggy played on the Mojo Stage before household names, Tash Sultana and John Butler Trio.
His latest single "Love Me Now" (released 18 May 2018) has been a huge step for the East Coast songwriter, getting his music to the ears of millions of new fans. "Love Me Now" was added to Australian radio ‘triple j’ high rotation, has had frequent airplay on the Australian Hit Network, was featured on multiple Spotify and Apple Music playlists including New Music Friday and The A-List, as well as New Artist of The Week on Apple Music – collectively racking up an impressive 2 million streams in just under 3 months.
"Love Me Now" has also been featured on the Shazam charts for several weeks, as well as debuting at #11 on the ARIA singles charts, #10 on the iTunes digital charts and #1 on the AIR independent singles charts, and was performed (along with a cover of Chance The Rapper's "Juke Jam" on triple j for 'Like A Version'.
In September of 2018, Ziggy sold out his first headline tour in North America.
Ziggy is excited for the upcoming announcements that will see the ‘Laps Around The Sun World Tour’ continue well into 2020.
